Vintage 2021 has started…
Another early vintage is upon us this year in the Bridge Pa Triangle with a 3-week early bud burst on the 28th August for our chardonnay (clone 95 and clone 15) on our home block here at Sileni Estates.
A steady, warm growing season has led to beautiful fruit development especially in the Pinot Noir and Merlot. Our Parkhill Springstone and Plateau Pinot Noir are looking excellent with great flavours and colour.
The heat wave from Australia saw Hawke’s Bay reach 35 degrees a couple of weeks ago which in turn has seen the sugar levels in our Pinot Noir grapes at our Parkhill vineyard skyrocket and helped bring us into an early harvest starting with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for both still and sparkling wine as well as some rosé production.
Recent rain did slow the ripening process down a little (which has been a blessing for the Hawke’s Bay farming community) and has allowed us to get our harvest team prepared for vintage which kicked off officially on the 25th February. All our vineyard and winery team will be working tirelessly over the coming weeks to bring in the best grapes for producing our Sileni wines.
